Another Bank is Seized: Irwin Union with Two Branches in Phoenix

The Columbus-based Irwin Union Bank which operated branches in Mesa and Phoenix was shut down on Friday, September 19, 2009 by the Office of Thrift Supervision. First Financial Bank based in Hamilton, Ohio, assumed its $2.5 billion in deposits and the branches in Arizona which were opened on Monday as First Financial Bank.

The company lost $57 million in the second quarter, compared with a loss of $107 million a year earlier. It lost $94 million in the first quarter of 2009. The toll of seized U.S. Banks has reached 94 this year.
