CFOs Failing to Engage the Board on Company Strategy

CFOs believe that their boards of directors are not providing the strategic guidance that companies need. Directors want to be strategic but get "board packs" heavy on granular detail. As a result, boards focus on minutiae. Finance Leadership Exchange research shows that progressive CFOs are proactive in redirecting this focus. These CFOs reevaluate board reporting periodically-and seek director feedback-to filter out lower-impact issues that accumulate in board reports over time.

With limited time and resources, CFOs must provide the Board insight into the most pertinent strategic and financial information in a format that is easily digestible and action-oriented. This session will explore how CFOs can stop being messengers to the board of directors, responsible mainly for financial data inputs.
